I don’t know about you, but if you haven’t heard of the Android based OUYA console coming out next year, then I don’t really want to know where you’ve been! This little magic machine is stirring up quite a bit of controversy, anticipation and excitement.
It’s main purpose, from what I understand, is to bring back the love of gaming to the TV. Brilliant! Superb! But we’re just getting started, it’s only $99! Throw in a modest $10 shipping fee, and you get the Console itself and one controller. Holy crap!
The people getting this project going say they want all games to be free in some form or another. For example; you might want to try out a game before you buy it, what do you do? Get the demo! Or maybe it will be a free to download game, with micro transactions. Just to name a few options.
How could it get any better? Every OUYA will come with a Dev Kit, allowing anyone with game-making-ness knowledge to crack’er open and start making games! That alone is my favourite reason for this system.
This “Power to the Masses” design, in my humblely-hoping opinion, is the reason I believe the OUYA will shake the very foundation of our Gaming Industry as we know it today.
Imagine a big company *coughs* ea *coughs* is milking one of it’s most prize possessions *coughs* masseffect *coughs*. Everyone loves these games, their story starts out rich, the characters are compelling and well rounded. There’s a trilogy on the horizon and we’re all waiting patiently to see how it all comes to an end (or endings). Then BAM! An industry giant comes along and cuts our hearts out. We finish it anyways, then we cry… we cry…
I say Fudge them! Take OUYA and make our own stories! Show them how it’s done! Show them they can end a story and still make money! And when they come crawling back to us, their customers, we kick them again, then offer our hand to help them back up and Bowser toss them off the nearest cliff to oblivion!
*Sigh* Sorry got on a rant there. Gawd that felt good.
In summary, I vote OUYA for the future of all gaming industry models, and fun, and sleekness…
Power to the People!
